Growing Your Blog Audience with Live Streaming

January 24, 2017

Looking for a great new way to enlarge your blog’s audience? Try live video. According to SEOmoz, blog posts incorporating video attract three times as many inbound links as blog posts without video.  Adding video to your blog can increase the chances of front page Google results by over 50 times! And audiences are 10 times more likely to engage, embed and share content that includes video. In other words – video is hot! So hot in fact that it’s expected to account for 76% of all web traffic by 2020. And the hottest thing today in video is Live Streaming.

The Growing Popularity of Live Streaming

People spend 300% more time watching live videos than non-live ones. The result is more advertising dollars. Live video is outpacing the growth of all other types of online video, with a 113% increase in ad growth. No one wonder half of all big major media outlets now include live video on their websites and that number will likely reach 75% by the end of the year. Facebook Live alone is achieving eight-billion video views monthly! What are people watching? Breaking news makes up 56% of most-watched live content, with conferences and speakers tied with concerts and festivals in second place at 43%. But best of all there isn’t enough of it! Facebook is so hungry for live content it’s paying celebrities $50 million to create live content for them.

Live streaming broke into the public consciousness a few ago with a company called Meerkat. Its success led to Twitter getting involved with the formation of Periscope. Then Facebook got into the game with Facebook Live and now even YouTube has a live streaming app.

Why Is Live Streaming So Powerful?

As a one-time only event, live video creates a sense of urgency which conventional video can’t. Online users are mostly passive towards content they can access whenever they want. But if your stream is only available at that moment in time, it’s imperative that people watch it now or they won’t be able to see it at all! This can create a real commotion on the web.

The Emergence of Remote Live Streaming

Live streaming is easy. All you need is your mobile and a live streaming app. But what happens if a great event is happening in another city, another state or even another country? You would love to live stream it, but you just don’t have the time, money or resources to do it. Now there’s a solution – Snappers. Snappers allows bloggers and independent media outlets to cover remote events live by finding event participants willing to act as temporary video reporters using just their mobiles.  It’s like having your own newsroom with reporters around the world!  Want to cover that new tech gadget convention in Las Vegas, a horse show in London or a fashion show in Paris? Now every blogger can. Using this lucrative content is a sure way to generate interest in your blog and expand your audience.
